Our MiniDoll List project for June was on the Equestrian side. Featured to the left is our tailored sidesaddle doll. |
Basic Sewing Directions |

Thank you to Helena for the original skirt pattern (the Southern Belle kit). See more of her beautiful work on her websitee . |
This is an intermediate level kit, and assumes you have some sewing knowledge. 1. Make tube out of white cotton for pantaloons and petticoat. Gather tops, sew on doll. Add lace. 2. Cut out 6 skirt gores. Sew together. Finish hem, gather waist and add silk ribbon to bottom. 3. Cut out jacket pieces (click here to see) from paper towel to measure internet to your printer size. I had to add about 1/8" seam allowance to get correct fit. Once fit is as you desire, cut from heavy silk/cotton/linen/wool material. 4. Sew CF seams together, then gores. Next I sewed the shoulder seams together (one back piece to each front) and then the CB together. I cheated and left sides open to put over dolls head, and overlap and glue to form tight fit. I'm sure Jessika has the *real* technique, simply email her 5. I added the collar next (sew together, and fold over and glue on). Next glue buttons as desired. |
HAIR Basically I know they wore buns most of the time <G> but I couldn't resist the flowing locks. I created them simply by pleating viscose in a 1" pleater, glued on strip over head, and gluing on hat. Wigging How to Links HAT Follow fimo hat directions at bottom of page from this link, paint black, and glue veiling from back or as desired. MISC Jacket Buttons were no hole black beads (found in a regular craftstore ... look at the rubber stamp section) Hands were painted with black acrylic paint to simulate gloves (you can glue on a tiny bit of thin thread across knuckles to simulate stitching).
